Mass City basketball has 2 championship trophies but there could be a 3rd.

The Mass-Greenland Rockets won it all in 1948, but they also won it all in 1947. However, according to my crack research team, the teams from the Upper Peninsula had their own tournament so it didn’t count as an official MHSAA State Championship.

Mass City, led by coach John D. Wilson, implemented a fast break style offense, ran up a state record 59 wins in a row from December of ’46 – January of ’49.

Fun fact, of all the signs from the Upper Peninsula that are on this site, half of them have been found by my wife’s two brothers!
