Spring Arbor is probably best known for Spring Arbor University (duh, read the sign) but the school has been part of the community for more than 150 years. It was founded in 1873 as Spring Arbor Seminary and eventually grew into a four-year college before becoming Spring Arbor University in 2001.
Spring Arbor also has a connection to another well-known Michigan college. Michigan Central College was founded here in 1844 before moving to Hillsdale in 1853, where it became Hillsdale College.
Today, Spring Arbor University is a Christian liberal arts university. It says its alumni network has grown to more than 40,000 graduates, making the school a pretty big part of this small community.
