Clay Township

I’ve never really understood the difference between a township, a city, and a village. So I’m not sure if the city of Algonac resides within Clay Township or if we have another situation like the Kochville Township and University both claiming to be the home of Saginaw Valley State University.

Algonac Muskrat athletics have been in the news recently for a couple of reasons:

Their top ranked baseball team was the Division 7 runners up last year, falling to Bridgman and finished with a stellar 37-4 record.

In 2022 the football team, facing declining participation made the courageous decision to cancel the rest of their season when the team could only suit up 12 players on the varsity team. Instead of calling up underclassmen that were not physically ready to play varsity football.

My son is one of the coaches at East English Viillage in Detroit and they played a half of a game with only 11 players. It was tough to watch, and even tougher to play.

I’m sure it was a very difficult decision and I feel for the players that missed out on the season, but it was probably the best decision.

The Muskrats varsity team has a full season scheduled for 2023.
