Ken Beardslee is  considered by some to be the best high school pitcher of all time.

His statistics are quite remarkable. Beardslee set national records for strikeouts in a nine-inning game (26), threw eight no-hitters, including two perfect games, won 24 of the 25 games he pitched and set the national record for career strikeout average (18.1 out of every 21 batters) and season strikeout rate (19 of 21 batters in 1949).

He was elected to the Lansing Area Hall of Fame and the National Federation of State High School Associations Hall of Fame.

The other part to the sign is the Maple Syrup Festival (held on the last full weekend in April).

They, like many small town festival offer lost of stuff: rides, talent show, arts and crafts, flea market, two parades, petting zoo, princess pageant, games, free entertainment, a pancake derby, and arm wrestling.
