Manton

Tom Skiver was a State Champion wrestler and everyone in town knows it.

He defeated Wes Schroeder from Addison 5-2 in the 275 lb. bracket in 2006 and finished with a very impressive 41-4 record.

Schroeder got his revenge the next year beating Skiver 2-1 in the finals.

I see a sign like this and wonder what Tom Skiver thinks when he sees this sign. 

Is it fun? Is it annoying? Is it something he even notices anymore?

I thought I’d ask him so I reached out to Tom through Facebook.

He said, “I liked it when they put it up. Obviously a little embarrassing.. It doesn’t bother me though. I used to get probably weekly “sign guy” questions they’ve definitely slowed in the last few years though.”

And as far as the defeat in the finals his senior year, “He was good. Wrestled at Eastern Michigan. But I should have beaten him again. I was too conservative. Let him hang around too long.”

The winning point was a stalling call with 10 seconds left in the match – a tough way to lose.

Tom is now a teacher at Manton and coaches Football and Track.
