With a total area of 0.48 acres, Petersburg is the smallest city in the state of Michigan.
It was originally called Summerfield, and the schools are still named Summerfield.
The Bulldogs had quite a softball dynasty and a flair for the dramatic.
In 2010 they beat Onaway 2-1. In 2011 they beat Unionville-Sebawaing 6-5 in extra innings. And in 2012 they lost their bid for a 3peat when they lost to Dansville 3-2.
Perhaps the most decorated Summerfield Softball player is Melissa Taylor.
Her career batting average of .611 is fifth-best in the MHSAA record books and her 237 runs scored is sixth. She was all-state in softball and basketball and played at the University of Michigan. She went on to earn Big Ten Player of the Year honors in 2001.
