Bay Port

In 2010 I accepted a new job. To celebrate, my wife and I went away for the weekend driving through the thumb looking for signs.

This was one of the ones we found and is still one of my all-time favorites.

Bay Port’s motto is “Where the Fish Caught the Man.”

The festival was started by Henry Engelhard and is typically in early August.  Henry started selling fish sandwiches in front of his house to pay his daughter’s college tuition.  His sales grew and grew until in 1978 it became The Fish Sandwich Festival.

Every year over 10,000 people come and enjoy the parade, 5k Run, arts and crafts and of course fish sandwiches that should be so large it takes two hands to hold them.

The festival was featured on NBC’s Today Show, ABC’s 20/20, and in many national magazines and newspapers.
