When it comes to the Michigan or Michigan State debate I find myself firmly in the middle. (I am a Wayne State grad as is my wife and one of my sons).
There’s a lot to like about MSU and I have many friends that have had great experiences there.
I even had the chance to be a guest lecturer there a few times for a friends Advertising Course (Thanks Dave Regan!)
A life long friend on mine heads up CRU at Michigan State. I’ve known Brian Langford since 7th grade and can think of few better men. One time Brian invited me and another friend to talk about friendship. We thought it was going to be at the Langford’s house but instead we went to the campus with hundreds of kids watching us stammer through a presentation.
One of my favorite trips to MSU was with my younger son. We got tickets to a basketball game. I picked him up from 8th grade basketball practice and he was not in a talkative mood. We got some breakfast and drove the 90 minutes to get there. He was still rather unexcited. The game was great. State beat Northwestern in overtime. We met my friend’s daughter after for dinner at one of the first 5 Guys in the area. (she was a student there). My son opened up a little with Lauren but was still rather reserved. On the way home he really didn’t want to talk much. I wondered if he had a good time and he replied. “yeah.” (Lower case y)
Later than night I was looking at Facebook and saw my son’s post. It said “Went to the State game today. It was AMAZING!”
