Algonac

According to the city’s site, Algonac is known as the Pickerel Capital of the World. (That’s real pickerel, not what many Canadians call pickerel, which we know as walleye.)

So Algonac hosts this Pickerel Tournament every year and it has grown into a full-blown Michigan festival with all the fixin’s.

In addition to the tournaments for adults & kids, thre is a midway, food trucks, rides, festival tent, car show, fireworks, daily live music & family activities.

This 5-day Pickerel Tournament and Festival, held around the 4th of July every year, is a major event during Lake St. Clair’s boating & fishing season.

In case you’re wondering,the tournament’s biggest fish was caught in 1973 at a weight of 11 pounds, 5 ounces.
