Paw Paw

My friend Jack and his family travel from metro Detroit to Illinois regularly. On one of the trips, he said to his wife Angie (who took the picture for Waters) “A town so nice, they named it twice.” I can’t drive through it without hearing that little rhyme. And I apologize in advance if it gets stuck in your head.

Charlie Maxwell and Wastewater is a unique combination. Charlie played in the pros for a long time – 15 seasons – and had a reputation of having his best games on Sundays. (He once hit 4 consecutive home runs on a Sunday double header).

He started his career in Boston where he was the backup to Ted Williams. He went to Detroit where he made the All-Star Team twice and was among the American League leaders in several categories. He retired in Paw Paw when his playing days were over.
