Michigan travelers prefer the back roads

I “like” Pure Michigan on Facebook.

The other day I came across the post that asked, “When you head out on a vacation in Michigan, do you prefer to get there fast and take the highways, or enjoy the trip, taking back roads and making stops along the way?”

Good question. I prefer the back roads (that’s where all of the Home Of signs are).

Apparently so do travelers. I counted up the 300+ responses and 90% of folks that commented said that they either preferred the back roads or both (highways one way back roads the other).

One of my favorite signs/attractions was in Gagetown and it’s Octagon Barn.

I’ve lived in Michigan for most of my life and have never heard of this city or it’s barn.

After spending 30 minutes there this summer, I can’t wait to get back.

This is an example of one of the many hidden gems that you can find on the back roads.

What about you? Back roads or highways?
